John D. Stephens, M.D., FACOG

At Koala Labs, your ultrasound scan will be performed personally by John D. Stephens, M.D., FACOG (USA), FRCOG (UK). Dr. Stephens is a board certified obstetrician (Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology). His medical training in England is also recognized by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists ("OB/GYN"). In 1986, he was elected to be a Fellow. He is a licensed physician in all clinic locations. Dr. Stephen's is also a California Accredited MD Sonologist for providing Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound (NT).

For 26 years, he has been specializing in diagnosing the health and sex/gender of unborn babies. He has extensive knowledge in the field of prenatal diagnosis, especially in the area of ultrasound.

Dr. Stephens received his medical training in Australia and England and his medical genetics training in the United States. He came to the U.S. directly from the UK after having finished his training as a board-certified OB/GYN, to Stanford University as a physician specialist in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. He then enrolled in a medical genetics course in San Francisco at the UCSF (University of California-San Francisco) medical school for two years, where he was the first OB/GYN to enroll in a medical genetics program. Dr. Stephens was then asked to stay on a third year as a clinical instructor as the "lead" physician in the genetic amniocentesis program. Subsequently, he was then able to establish a private practice not just specializing in, but limited to to obstetrical ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis.

Koala Labs recently added first trimester screening testing for Down syndrome and trisomy 18, using a combination of ultrasound together with blood testing from the mother. It is called Ultra-Screen®.
